July 03, 2015

The IC assembly and packaging joint venture between PTI (Powertech Technology Inc.) and Micron in Xi'an, China, has sped up construction, aiming to begin trial runs in 4Q15 and mass production in 1Q16, reported Commercial Times on July 3. The US$210-million JV, with an initial investment of US$70 million from PTI, is designed to deliver 28 million to 30 million DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) chips and 600,000 SSDs (Solid State Drive) per month. Production lines for NAND Flash memory will also be added in the future. After completion, the Xi'an plant is expected to take up 90% of Micron's overall capacity.
